In their third year with us, preschoolers focus on mastering "kindergarten readiness" skills. These include using scissors and glue appropriately, recognizing both upper and lower case letters, knowing most letter sounds, identifying some sight words, recognizing numbers, counting to 20, and writing their names.

However, true preparation for kindergarten goes beyond academics. Social and emotional readiness is crucial. The transition from a three-hour preschool class to a full-day public school setting—with three recesses, lunch, music, PE, library visits, bus rides, and over 400 students—is significant. To ensure a smooth transition, we focus on building confidence, teaching emotional regulation techniques, facilitating peer role-playing, and encouraging free-choice play throughout the year.

We are confident that, with this comprehensive preparation, our students will be more than ready for their new classrooms come next fall, as many kindergarten teachers throughout the district can attest.
